Every person with a disability has, at least once in their life, asked themselves a tough question:
“Why?”
Unfortunately, some get stuck in the negativity of this question, making their tough times last
longer. Like Simon Sinek says in his famous talk, asking “Why?” can change things. But why is
this question so hard for people with disabilities?
It’s because many of us believe life isn’t fair, and we blame the universe for our limits. The hard
times, though, are what make life memorable. Don’t believe it? Just ask someone who won’t
leave their comfort zone.
We, people with disabilities, are on a mission as special warriors, trying to make everyone see
the endless possibilities in us. Many successful stories say their achievements came from facing
struggles and life’s tests.
I strongly believe in two ways of living: surviving and striving. Unfortunately, lots of people
with disabilities just aim to survive, keeping a cycle of feeling bad.
Life is about how you see it; it challenges those who doubt themselves and cheers on those who
are brave.
Life gets good when you accept things as they are. Acceptance is a superpower, and not many
can do it. But those who can do amazing things do so because, once accepted, nothing can beat
them. We need to move away from just surviving as soon as we can.
Another big thing is being thankful for what we have. Sometimes, we get mad and blame those
who care for us. But being thankful brings more good things.
Thankfulness goes even beyond the simple stuff, like breathing. If you can breathe, you’ve got
something to be thankful for: life itself.
Suffering is just a part of life—another way of saying life is tough. But those who believe good
things come after tough times and appreciate the ups and downs really get why life matters.
Appreciating the good stuff comes from pushing through challenges.
So, I want to say a big thanks to the hardworking people helping people with disabilities.
Understanding our struggles isn’t easy. To those working hard, I say a big thank you.
Now, let’s all work together to make the world better. Imagine a world where people with
disabilities aren’t seen as limited but celebrated for what they can do. It’s about including
everyone and seeing the unique strengths, talents, and viewpoints people with disabilities bring.
Education is a big part of this dream. It’s not just a right, but a powerful tool to help us be strong.
Giving people with disabilities a good education sets us up for a future where everyone is
included.
We also need to break down barriers, both physical and in people’s minds. Things like buildings
and attitudes need to change. Everyone should be valued, no matter what they can or can’t do.
People with disabilities should be part of making decisions. They know best what they need. We
call it “nothing about us without us.” Healthcare is super important, too. People with disabilities
sometimes find it hard to get the healthcare they need. We need healthcare that understands
everyone’s needs.
Let’s not forget about jobs. People with disabilities have loads of talents. Giving everyone a fair
chance at work brings in a bunch of creativity. Businesses, listen up—diversity and inclusion
make for a cooler and stronger workplace.
As we work towards our goals, we need to make sure no one gets left behind. It’s about working
together, facing challenges together, and celebrating how different we all are.
Let’s make it happen!
