ENGAGEMENTS FOR INCLUSIVE PRACTICES AND SUSTAINABLE ADVOCACY FOR PROMOTION OF RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

DESCRIPTION:

The Engagements for Inclusive Practices and Sustainable Advocacy for Promotion of Rights of Persons with Disabilities project is a transformative initiative aimed at bridging gaps in the implementation of disability rights across India. With a strong focus on capacity-building, this project will train and empower government officials—including bureaucrats, policymakers, and law enforcers—over three years. Through targeted awareness and advocacy, we are working to create a more inclusive and accessible society for persons with disabilities.

GOAL:

Establishing a Training and Capacity Building Unit

Our dedicated Training and Capacity Building Unit will provide in-depth training to government officials, equipping them with the knowledge skills and commitment needed for disability inclusion. The unit will focus on:

  1. Developing tailored training modules
  2. Promoting interactive learning experiences
  3. Providing ongoing resources to support government agencies in upholding disability rights effectively

Creating a Parliamentary Forum on Disability

We aim to establish a forum of Members of Parliament to champion disability rights within legislative spaces. The forum will:

  • Drive conversations on disability rights in parliament
  • Advocate for policy changes and the introduction of new legislation
  • Support amendments to enhance the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities nationwide

WHAT WE ARE DOING:

  • Stakeholder Consultations: We are conducting consultations with experts, stakeholders, government officials, and civil society representatives to assess the current implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016. These discussions aim to identify existing gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Comprehensive Training Programs: We are designing and deploying training modules that cover disability rights, inclusive practices, and communication skills, tailored to the unique roles within government agencies and law enforcement.
  • High-Level Stakeholder Engagements: Through direct dialogues with key decision-makers, we’re advocating for disability policy advancements at both district and national levels.
  • Policy Advocacy with Parliamentarians: We are actively engaging policymakers and Members of Parliament to push for legislative improvements and introduce new policies that further the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities across India.
