World Disability Day 2004
The
celebration this year is going to be bigger and better than ever before! A huge
event has been organised at the India Gate, with more than 10,000 people expected
to be participating. To make this year’s W.D.D. truly memorable, N.C.P.E.D.P.
is in a process of negotiating with music bands and finalising acts featuring
disabled and non-disabled artists.
This year’s W.D.D. theme of inclusion would be expressed through medium of Arts and Culture highlighting creative, artistic and intellectual potential of disabled people. N.C.P.E.D.P. in association with Indian Oil Limited presents the first of its kind, National ArtsAbility Festival. The festival is being organised by the Asia Pacific Therapeutic Theatre (A.P.T.T.), featuring students with disabilities.
The
festival will begin with a weeklong photo and art exhibition from December 1
at Ajanta Arts Gallery. The art exhibition will showcase artworks by disabled
children from around the country. Previous A.P.T.T. productions featuring disabled
actors and dancers from India and abroad will be featured in the photo exhibition.
Theatre will be the main attraction of the festival, which will include two special performances from Indian epics, Ramayana-on-wheels and Devi – The Ultimate Power. The performances choreographed by renowned classical dancer and theatre veteran, Sayed Salahuddin Pasha, will feature disabled children from various special schools in Delhi.
Ramayana-on-wheels will be staged in Kamani Auditorium on December 5. The festival would conclude with the staging of Devi – The Ultimate Power at Sri Ram Centre of Arts and Commerce on December 7.
